Affiliate Marking
I’ve had a
website since 2010; it’s an information
website for my basketball league. It’s where a bunch of neighborhood kids sign up to participate to play basketball. It’s a good service a lot of kids get started to love the game in this league. Never had any ads on the pages always thought that was a little cheesy, like I was trying to make money off of the parents who sign their kids up for the league. So I created an account for google Analytics, just to see where the attention was going once they got to the
website. Most of the time they would just come on the
website to sign there kid up then hop off. Then I started to create ads to promote classes that I was offering to the right of the page. I notice that after coming to the site they would click on the page to which was the class or training I was offering. It showed that they were spending more time on the page I was offering then coming to register their kid for the league.
So I created a store, some products from Amazon, basketballs,
socks, shorts, just things related to basketball. So I noticed that in my account I started to get very little commissions form the small items that parents would by basketball related item pertaining to basketball gear for their kids, the players to wear. Commissions were not enough for Amazon to send me a check, but it made me think I’ll just provide it and if they want to buy it, that’s up to them. And that’s how I got started with affiliate marketing. So there was another program where google offered was called google Adsense, this program you create an account and plug in a html code to your site that google provides and relevant ads show up on your site. If readers are on your site and they click on the ads you may get a commission. I was not good at this part, but then again I’ll provide it, if there is something they’re looking for, have at it. I would only put these ads on the blog and the store pages, the information site for registering for the league which is my bread and butter gets no ads, I don’t want the parents to become distracted when registering for the basketball League.
Changing the face of the website
When I first started building my website I wanted to change the face of the website like the background, depending on what holiday it was, which was a lot of work when you have multiple pages, found out that a lot of affiliates will do that for you. So I signed up for a couple of market sharing companies. Companies that get other companies that sell things and offer you a chance to make a commission if you put their product on your site and then people buy from your site you gain a commission, kind of like Amazon. Hey the more the merrier, also don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket. I’ve had Amazon trip out on me and when you click on any of their product it had an error messages, something about violating their terms of agreement, Pssst please. Always need to read the term of agreement so you can have products and bounty. A bounty is a subscription that company offers, if they sign up via your website you get a commission.
I found an affiliate website that fits perfect for my website. It’s called,
LightInTheBox.com. It sells really cool stuff for kids. I was looking for LED Shoes for Halloween, kids are walking in the dark trick or treating for Halloween, these shoes light up in the dark so a person driving in a car will spot the kid in LED Shoes. Also they have really cool shoes that can match your Halloween costume.
